I've had my daughter for the summer, and she has kept me busy, so I've only played for a couple hours over the last 6 weeks.
Been a great summer. Been going to a lot of basketball games, doing some fishing, and all the other fun stuff that goes along with having the young one! I've really had the itch to play some mtt's, now if I can just find the time. I think Ashley is going to a friends for the weekend, so I might get some poker in this weekend.
Have a trip to Boston planned for the 7th-9th of August. Going to the Natural History Museum, among other things. Also, going to New York for a Broadway play the weekend after that, so the next month is going to be as busy as the last one.
Hopefully I'll have the itch and time for poker come September, cause hunting starts in October, and that'll eat up a bunch of time as well!!

Spring Has Sprung!
It's been a while since I wrote about poker, so I guess it's high time I do!! After I tell you about my latest trip!
Had a blast in AZ. Spending time with my dad and brothers is always fun. Throw in some partying, and some riding, and it's even better! The week in AZ went too fast, I could have dealt with the warm weather a little longer! I did get in a round of golf while there! I smoked my little brother, witch drove him nuts, since he has been golfing for longer, and pretty much used to beat me pretty handily! I took him for $9 playing a $1 a hole skins, and beat him by 10 strokes!! I did manage 3 birdies, and 7 pars, not bad considering it was my first round of the year, and I was using rental clubs!!!
Camping in the desert sounded like a lot of fun, and it was, but it gets frickin cold at night!!! I wasn't prepared, and froze my ass the first night!! The 4 wheelin was awesome! We spent a good part of the time riding up and down a river, seeing who could get whom the wettest! We did some exploring too, and talked with some gold prospectors as well!!
On the poker front, I've more less switched to Stars, even though they are rigged! I'm really struggling to get a decent roll going there! Really I'm getting my ass kicked, and dropped a bunch playing 18-45 man SNG's. It's driving me nuts! I flip bad! So I switched back to the 9 mans, and at one point I had cashed 20 of 32, only to follow that up with 5 bad sessions where I cashed 19 of 80! I'm still getting used to multi tabling them, so I know the cashes will come, if I just give it time! 16 tables at a time is not as hard as I thought, but it will take a little while getting used to playing that many! I'll post some numbers, when I get to 2k played!
I also got my younger bro playing on FTP! I'm trying to teach him how to beat sng's, which is funny since I'm having a hard time with them myself!! Not that it matters, because he doesn't seem to want to listen to me anyway! But in my defense, he couldn't even figure out how to sign up for them, so he definitely has some learning to do! I got the RTR and FTP referrals though, so beyond that I really don't care too much!

MN Again!
Day 1
Per usual, the trip was awesome. Right from the airport, up to the shack, only to find that the logger had plowed a 3 foot snowbank, now ice, that was blocking the road a half mile away from the shack. Luckily, we were early enough, that he was still there. After dropping off some clothes, firing up the heater, and doing some shoveling, we then headed back to my dads house for a few beers, and then bed. BTW, on the way to the shack we saw a silver fox. Too bad it took off, I really wish I could have gotten some pictures. It was the first one I've ever seen in MN, and I've been in them woods all my life!
Day2
Up bright and early excited to hit the trail, we had 2 bars, 2 shelters, and 125 miles of trail to cover, before we got to the shack. We fired up the sleds at about 8:30, and were on the road in short order. Considering all the rain that MN had just had, we were happy to find that the trails were, for the most part, in good shape. The only exception being all the spur trails, heading to and from the bars....go figure. Pretty uneventful ride up, until we got right close to the shack. We had decided to stop and have a beer with the logger a half mile from the shack, and as we got there, Jamie, (my younger bro) hits some ice turning into the loggers landing, and tips his machine, and cracks part of his windshield. Hit the shack at 5pm, beer...dinner.....beer....sauna...beer...midnight....beer....bed!

Day 3
Up at about 8:30am, because everyone heres Jamie's boots thumping across the floor. He never took them off...still had his snow pants on too!!!! Problems with a frozen throttle cable on one of the sleds, so we don't get that fixed and hit the trail until about 11am. The nearest gas station is 20 miles, so we all put enough gas in the machines to make it, except Charlie, who has a 2.5 gallon container on back, just in case. Half way to the gas station Charlie runs out of gas, only to find that his container is empty. So we pull a couple hoses off his sled, and connect them so we can siphon a little gas from a couple different sleds. Then as we almost get to the gas station, his sled starts running like shit. After gassing up, we look at it only to find, that one of the breather tubes we used to siphon gas was melted to the muffler. LOLOL Damn Finlander's!!! 90 miles, 2 bars later, and 7 hours later we were back at the shack for...beer...dinner....beer....sauna....beer...midnight....beer.....bed!
One of the bars had a vintage run going on, lots of old sleds.
P.s. It was Valantines day, so we all strapped teddy bears to hoods of our sleds.
Day 4
The trip home was good, the trails were even better than the way up. pretty uneventful until we were 8 miles from home, when Jamie had problems with his secondary clutch. Luckily we were only a mile from a parking lot, so we towed it to there, as my dad ran to town and got his truck! Back to my dads house for a few beers, then an early night.
Day 5
It was a relaxing one. I spent most of the day kicking Jamie's ass in cribbage. (ended up ahead $22.05, playing $1 a game $.05 a hole!). Went out for dinner at about 6 with the whole family, then I went downtown and met up with some buds, where it got very drunk out.
Day 6
Not much all day, but went and watched the old hockey team kick some ass! They have a great team this year, sporting a record of 20-5. They were playing Hibbing, one of the teams that handed them a lose, earlier in the year. The student section chants started 10 minutes before the game. It was awesome, and brought back a lot of memories. The first period was a little slow, as you could tell both teams were a little nervous. They went into the locker room still 0-0! About 5 minutes into the 2nd, Hibbing broke the ice, with there only goal. Less than a minute later, Virginia's 4th line tied it up. Immediately, the student section started chanting thats our 4th line. It was great. By the end of the second period the score was 3-1 Virginia. Shortly into the 3rd period Hibbing got a 2 on 1, and bounced one of the post...to witch the Virginia student started chanting "You got nothing", followed by Hibbings chants of "you got lucky", then, Virginia came back with "With your mother". The whole stadium started laughing at that one, including Hibbing fans. The 4th period was awesome, Virginia scored 4 more to win 7-1, 6 of them scored by sophomores, and 2 of them were short handed.
Day 7
The sad day of the trip. I attended a funeral. While I was home a lifelong friend of the family passed. Gerry Foleman, or Uncle Gerry as he was known to most, passed at the age of 80! He was one of the happiest people I've ever known. He would often tell jokes, and always laughed at them himself. When he laughed, his whole body laughed, and his face would turn red. A laugh I'll never forget... RIP Unc!!!
Day 8
Lots of driving, as I went and had brunch with my grandma in the am, then went and got Ashley in the pm. Almost 9 hours in a car!! EEK!
Day 9
We woke up early and hit the trails again, taking Ashley on her first solo snowmobile trip. It was a little scary at first, and took Ashley a while to get comfortable with the sled. Good thing Grandpa volunteered to follow her, and let me ride in front of her, cause I don't know if my heart could have taken following her all day! We drove to a local bar/restaurant, and had lunch. It took us 4 hours to get about 40 miles, but by the time we got there, Ashley was really starting to get the hang of it, and it only took about 2.5 hours to finish off the last 50 miles of the trip! By the time we got back Ashley was dead tired, but said she loved it, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Day 10
I got to go watch my oldest nephew play hockey. Unfortunately, he wasn't having his best game, and got pulled half way through the second period after letting in two soft goals. His team was playing a team that one of the other guys from the shack, has a kid on, so I got to see a couple hunting buddies too. After the game my niece and other nephew came back to my mom's. We had a good time goofing off, and watching some movies. I also took them both for rides on the sled.
Day 11
Got up early, ate some breakfast, then took the kids on some more rides, before their mom came and picked them up. After that, I had the task of the long ride bringing Ashley home.

Home sweet home......

What a year!!!
As 08 comes to a close, I can truly reflect on a great year. Not just poker wise, but just life in general.
Just to top of a great year, I took 2nd in a $50k on FTP for $8k today. My biggest cash ever. I really think I should have won the tourney. I had, or was close to, the CL from the end of the first hour right down till there were 5 left, then took 2 beats back 2 back, and was 4/5! I managed to win a couple races, and had reclaimed the CL with 3 left, then with 2 left, but pushed A5s into AJo, and that gave him a big CL. I eventually doubled once, and got within about 3-1, when I pushed A9, and he called with 22, and spiked a 2 on the flop, I did end up with 4 str8 outs on the river, but not, o'well GG.......
I really started taking poker a lot more serious as of late. I've been re-playing my mtt's, although not as much as I should, and I downloaded Holdem Manager. Now I have to go about learning what the heck all the numbers mean. I already have a little grasp on it after just 4 tourneys, but I know that I have only scratched the surface as to what it can help with. So, basically my goal for 09 poker wise is to spend more time studying, and learning. I also want to get myself in the top 10 on the PCS leader board. Although, I consider that a short term goal, as I really think I can do that within the next month! Then I shoot for top 5!!!
I have a snowmobile trip planned for presidents day weekend, in MN, so I'm looking forward to that. I'll spend 10 or so days there, so I get some time with Ashley too.

Another Vacation Over!!
Yesterday I got back from 20 days in MN, where I did some deer hunting, and spent some time with my daughter. Vacation got to be long, and I was glad to get home, but I did have a great time while there. We managed to go 10 for 10 at the deer shack, so that was great. My dad got the biggest, a 190# 13 pointer. I managed to slay a 120# spiker. A perfect 50 yd shot resulted in a quick clean kill.
I also got to attend one of Ashley's band concerts while in MN. It's the first one I've been to in a while, so it was fun, and she was excited that I got to be there! I also rented a couple rooms at a hotel over one of the weekends, and that was fun too. The hotel had a pool on each floor, and a hot tub on the roof.
Over the last 30 days, before vacation, I played about 600 sng's, and made about $1200 doing it, I'm only running about 6% roi, but was at 8% before I hit a terrible run over the last 100 or so.
Cereus has officially launched, and I really like the new schedule. I played my first set of mtt's today, but didn't do so well, other than a $10r PLO final table, but I was immediately coolered, and only managed 9th.
Now that vacation is over, it's time for me to get back to the grind. I'm going to start playing mostly ultra turbos on FTP, but am also going to be playing some Cereus mtt's.

Been Too Long!
I've turned into a SnG grinder! The super turbos on FTP is where you will find me now a days. I started out playing the $15,s but have moved up to the $30's, with a $45 or two thrown in just about every session. After about 700 I'm running 7% roi, and I've been on a bad downswing the last 40 or so, nothing has been holding! Amazing how many times I've lost, while having someone dominated, lately anyway. I guess that's part of grinding. I've played a few tourneys here and there with little success. I did cash the 150k on AP last week for $1050, with a free buy-in, so I'm still up a little, mtt wise, on the month.
I'm really excited to be heading back to MN next month. I'll be flying out the 6th-25th. I get to spend some time deer hunting, at the shack, in the north woods, something I haven't done in 3 years. Plus, I'll get to spend time with Ashley, and even be there for a band concert, so she's happy about that too.

A good friend of mine passed away, from a heart attack, this week, Steve "Joe Dirt" Quintana, was a selfless guy, who will be sorely missed by many. I wish his family the best during these trying times.

Back To The Grind?
Daytona was awesome. 5 days of sun and beach, with a lot of alcohol on top, makes for a good time.
Jim and I toured the Speedway, as well as the Kennedy Space Center. I kinda follow NASCAR, but have never been a huge follower, but the Speedway tour was one of the best vacation tours I've ever done. The sheer size of the place is incredible. Sitting on pit row watching the cars zip around was very cool. Lucky for us the Richard Petty Driving School was going on so we got to see the cars zipping around. I can now see why people love this sport. The Space Center was cool to, but it was so damn hot we cut it short. The rockets and shuttles were cool to see close up, and the tiny area they shove the astronauts into is crazy. I can't stand a 4 hour plane ride in them damn small seats, and these guys do it for days.
Monday we had to suffer through Tavaris Jackson, and the Vikes coaching staff. The refs didn't help either. How they got that instant replay wrong is beyond me, even the Packer fans, at the bar, were bitching. It was that bad. How the hell do you have one of the best running backs in the league, and still have more pass attempts, then rushing attempts.
Anyway, instead of the trip home late this month, I decided to wait, and go home the first two weeks of Nov for deer season. Also, decided against the Montana trip, maybe next year I'll get my act together earlier.
